Poetry Town in Bandon was officially launched in West Cork Heritage Centre Bandon by the Mayor of Cork County, Gillian Coughlan, who is also a Bandon resident.
Bandon’s Poet Laureate Matthew Geden unveiled his commissioned poem ‘The Walls We Build’. Bandon as a plantation walled town was built for monoculture. Now with one in five residents being non-national, it has well and truly outgrown its walls.
Other local poets, Cath Ronan, Isla Jeffers and Carmel Burman-Roy will read their work. Renowned local musician, Declan Sinnott will also be a guest before Matthew Geden will read his specially commissioned poem for the town.
